Andrei Banciu

Andrei Banciu was born in 1985 in Timisoara (Romania). He began studying piano at age 6 at the “Ion Vidu” Music School in his hometown with Maria Bodo, with whom he continued to study at the conservatory. As a 10 year old, he won the first prize at his first international competition (in San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy).
In 2006 he won the first prize at the “Bela Bartok” International Competition in Szeged (Hungary). From 2006 he studied with Professor Klaus Hellwig at the University of Arts in Berlin. He has taken piano master classes with Paul Badura-Skoda, Fabio Bidini, Pascal Devoyon, Rainer Becker, Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Jacques Rouvier and Tamas Vesmas, as well as courses for Lied accompaniment with Wolfram Rieger and for harpsichord with Gianluca Cagnani. He has received several scholarships and is one of the five Berlin recipients of the 2010 „Bayreuth Scholarship”.
In 2002 he participated in the “Musica Mundi” Chamber Music Course and Festival in Belgium, where he met the Jacques Thibaud String Trio from Berlin, with whom he gave many concerts in Germany and the USA. He has participated in music festivals in Germany, such as “Kissinger Sommer” in Bad Kissingen or “Europäische Wochen” in Passau. In 2008 he participated for the second time at the Gala Concert of the 10th Anniversary Edition of the “Musica Mundi” Festival in Belgium.
Andrei performed as a soloist with orchestras in Romania (Timisoara, Arad, Sibiu), with conductors such as Remus Georgescu, Gheorghe Costin, Joan Grimalt, Walter Hilgers, Vlad Conta. In 2009 he performed together with violinist Leonard Schreiber in Holland, Belgium, France (“Maison de Radio France” in Paris) and at the Royal Festival Hall in London.
